Hi Karen,
If you are using Instructional Services teachers, this can be a bit of a task. I usually look at the courses the students are enrolled in to determine which course would provide the best writing sample. For example, English is my go-to course for writing samples because there are multiple opportunities in this course for students to submit written work. If the student is not enrolled in English, then I look at the scope and sequence to determine which other course requires written work. Courses like History, Psychology, Creative writing, and Journalism all have required written work that can probably be used depending on your requirements. I would let students know that their written work samples will be collected, this bit of information can make a real difference in the quality of work submitted.
I know of no way to do this in bulk. I usually complete this task manually, which can take a bit of time so I recommend that you begin early in the semester to gather the writing samples.
If you are using your own teachers then your teachers then they can accomplish this task, the same as they would do in the traditional school setting.

Subject: Collecting work samples for Independent Study
Hello everyone - We are a school here in California and as a requirement for Independent Study, we need to have on file a work sample for every student. Curious to hear from other schools on how you do this for Edgenuity courses? What is the quickest, most efficient way to do this that satisfies the requirement?
Thanks in advance for your suggestions.
